PERVERSION

Part 1

Matthew 4:12-17

Jesus Begins His Ministry
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been taken into custody, He withdrew into Galilee; 13 and leaving Nazareth, He came and settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet:

15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
[a]By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the [b]Gentiles—

16 “The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light,
And those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death,
Upon them a Light dawned.”

17 From that time Jesus began to [c]preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”(NASB)

What is perversion? Well, typically most first think a twisted sexual desire. Which is true but not the only form of perversion. There is the twisting of information. Also, there is the twisting of an idea or intention. We see this in Genesis where Satan twisted God's intentions of not eating the fruit so we would not be cursed. But, we would gain knowledge of good and evil. This is far from the truth of what God plainly stated. Eat the fruit, you will be cursed, punished, and yes know how to sin.

Perversion is how Satan entered our world with the ability to control some and oppress others. It began with one simple bite. Then man became aware of themselves and their other abilities. What these abilities are is what I would like to cover here in this series. Yes, the ability to please the body outside of God's will. The method of taking information and bending it to our way of thinking. Having an intention to obtain something that is not right or to wrong others to gain something personally or selfishly.

There are many out there that have sex with anybody they come across. They see a women or a man, chemistry takes over their body (the flesh starts to rule killing the spirit), and they kick off the right conversation to let guards down (smooth talking, alcohol, drugs, etc.) and in bed they go (notice I am not putting a number on how many went into the bed together. There are others that get on websites to find their body pleasure. Others watch a neighbor through a window. Some even take it by force and this is sick. Some go beyond age limitations and have please with under-aged under-develop children. Yes, the hard truth. This is sexual perversion.

The other way to pervert life is to take information plainly laid out before us and get lazy with it. Well, the Bible can be extremely confusing. If a person does not research the way the Bible was written as a whole. They may not look at why each Book was put in the order it was placed. Why there are to Testaments. What does sin have to do with it. Why animal sacrifice, is this not was Satanists do? Why is Jesus the ultimate animal sacrifice. How does his death mean our new life. Is Revelation really a code we need to decipher. Why will God clean the earth and bring Heaven and earth back together. So many things to understand and gave wisdom of, where do I start. Well, we need to see all these things and start with the basics. Not, get lazy, grab some versus, and say, "That is what the Bible say in this one verse. I am going with this." There are versus around this verse. That verse is made up of a paragraph. The paragraph is apart of a book. And, that book is apart of the Bible. We can see here that perversion creeps in easier when a person is lazy.

When we think about the love Christ gave by giving His life to us. We should think about how he came simply to reverse perversion. How do people get so rich that they do not really need the money anymore. It is a simple, "How rich can I possibly get," game at some point. So and so are worth 60 Billion dollars. There are even list on the internet of the top ten riches. The next runners up. Should we have this ability to be on this type of leaderboard? Well, if it can have us so busy to pull us from God, then no. We can have this kind of money as long as God is still the center of our lives. But, to pervert it, is to make the intention of how rich can I get. Not, how can I help others.

These are the three basic topics I will cover in this sermon series. I hope you enjoy this and what you have read already. Stay tuned for the next part…
